Assistant State’s Attorney Positions

The Carroll County State’s Attorney’s Office is seeking applicants for several Assistant State’s Attorney (ASA) positions, including  General Felony Division ASA and District Court Division ASA. These positions offer the right candidate an opportunity to practice in a supportive office with excellent staff and robust training resources.  All Assistant State’s Attorneys work closely with law enforcement, allied agencies, and our Victim Witness Unit to provide for the safety of our community and just application of the law.  General office hours are from 8:00am to 4:30pm, but positions are exempt and include a full benefits package. Upon completion of a probationary period, the attorney may work from home one-day per week.

ASSISTANT STATE’S ATTORNEY, CIRCUIT COURT DIVISION

Essential duties and responsibilities include working with law enforcement officers, investigation, preparation and presentation of criminal cases from grand jury thru post-conviction motions.

Qualifications and Abilities:

  • Graduation for accredited law school
  • Member in good standing with the Maryland Bar
  • A minimum of 2 years prosecution experience, including jury trial experience
  • Extensive knowledge of legal procedures and principals
  • Solid Investigation, Interviewing and Interrogation skills
  • Strong communication, legal research and writing skills

Salary $86,965 -$139,152 commensurate with experience

Assistant State’s Attorney, DISTRICT COURT DIVISION

 Essential duties and responsibilities include analyzing cases and conducting legal research, pleading preparation, meeting with and preparing victims and witnesses for court, conducting pretrial hearings and trials, providing legal guidance to law enforcement, engaging in community outreach, managing all phases of criminal and serious traffic litigation, and any other duties as assigned. Opportunities in Circuit Court are available on a merit basis.  

Qualifications and Abilities:

  • Graduation from accredited law school
  • Member in good standing with the Maryland Bar
  • Experience in criminal litigation or clerkship is preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of legal principles and procedures
  • Ability to effectively communicate and make decisions under pressure
  • Evaluation and litigation of a criminal case
  • Interviewing and interrogations techniques

Salary begins at $79,789 but is commensurate with experience.

All positions are subject to random drug testing, to include testing for marijuana. The candidates must be available during working hours and on call as needed. These positions are full time and private practice of law is not allowed. Applicants must pass a pre-employment background investigation and pre-employment drug testing.
