Paralegal Digital Evidence Specialist

Exempt; full-time; 40 hours per week (Monday – Friday; 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.); full benefits

This professional position in the Evidence Review Unit of the State’s Attorney’s Office is responsible for the investigation, preparation and examination of digital evidence of all assigned felony and misdemeanor matters in the County’s jurisdiction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Review police reports and video to identify officers associated with case file.
• Utilizing specific guidelines review, shield, tag and duplicate incoming digital media such as received via links, CD’s, DVD’s and flash drives.
• Downloading Body Camera Videos, Cruiser Cam Videos and Video Interviews and other digital media.
• Uploading digital files into the SAO digital storage cloud (Command Central Evidence)
• Maintain close liaison with the police agencies and other agencies
• Assist in other case preparation as needed
• Assist with uploading and downloading of other digital media
• Assist attorneys with editing videos for court
• Perform other related duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice or a related field
• Minimum 2 years of work experience in a criminal justice field that includes paralegal or investigative work
• NOTE: Additional years of related work experience may reduce the education requirement and additional related education may reduce the years of experience required
• Possession of a valid automobile operator’s license

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of the rules of evidence and criminal and motor vehicle laws, as well as knowledge of the laws regarding search and seizure, and gathering and maintaining evidence
• Ability to efficiently and accurately interpret police reports
• Strong and effective spoken and written (English) communication skills, including a thorough understanding of the English language, technical and composition writing and professional correspondence
• Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain appropriate confidentiality
• Ability to deal calmly and efficiently in a pressured environment
• Ability to plan work, set well-defined and realistic goals, evaluate and monitor progress, and effectively manage time.
• Ability to attend meetings or perform other assignments at locations outside of the office, if necessary.

PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN FOR:
• Experience with digital evidence, technology or computers
• Work experience in a State’s Attorney’s Office or other criminal law office

EXAMINATION PROCESS (may include):

 Assistant State’s Attorney

The Carroll County State’s Attorney’s Office has an immediate opening for an Assistant

State’s Attorney. This position offers the right candidate an opportunity to practice in a

supportive office with an excellent staff and robust training resources.

Our Assistant State’s Attorneys work closely with law enforcement, our victim witness unit and

other allied agencies to provide for the safety of our community and just application of the law.

This position would work both in the District Court handling dockets and in the Circuit Court handling misdemeanor jury trials.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

•  Conducting trials and pretrial hearings

•  Meeting with and preparing witnesses and victims

•  Providing legal guidance to law enforcement

•  Engaging in community outreach

•  Managing all phases of criminal litigation

Qualifications:

•  Graduation from accredited law school

•  Member in good standing with the Maryland Bar

•  Experience in criminal litigation is preferred but not required.

Salary commensurate with experience
