NEW SCAMS

The Carroll County State’s Attorney’s Office wishes to alert the citizens of Carroll County of a disturbing SCAM involving threatening text messages people are receiving in Carroll County as well as surrounding jurisdictions.  Law enforcement is actively looking into the origination of these messages.

The text message reads “I’ve been paid to kill you but wish to spare you, inform the police or anyone else you die, to be spared contact (specific hotmail account) immediately via email.”

Police said:  DO NOT respond to the text; replying to the email results in everything from your cellphone being downloaded.

If you receive a similar text message, you should report it to the law enforcement agency in the jurisdiction in which you live.

The Carroll County State’s Attorney Office takes all scams and threats seriously and will prosecute anyone found to be sending such threats.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
